Provider FAQ
Providers should have:
- Completion of a Home Daycare-based course and training (certificate required)
- Knowledge of child development, Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen?
- Up-to-date First Aid and CPR Training
- Computer Skills
- Good Communication Skills
A Provider can care for up to 6 children, including their own children under the age of 4 years; 1 child under one year of age, 2 children under the age of two, and 3 children under the age of three.
In accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act 2025, 9(3):
Before placing a child at a premises where EHCCA oversees the provision of home child care, the agency considers whether the placement would provide safe accommodation for the child and for any children already at the premises, by considering the following:
- The ages of the children in the group.
- Any special needs or medical needs of the children in the group.
- The ability of each child to evacuate independently in an emergency.
- The experience and qualifications of the home child care provider.
Childcare placements may vary between providers’ homes based on individual circumstances.
A Provider with Etobicoke Home Child Care Agency signs a contract agreeing to the terms of the agency’s policies and procedures, and Child Care and Early Years Act. Providers with our licensed agency, EHCCA, have access to resources and training and learning opportunities. Our agency will provide support and consultation to Providers with any issues and challenges that may arise.
It takes approximately six months to become a Provider and open a home day care. There is an initial screening process that is required prior to opening a home for child care setting. The provider will also be required to participate in five training sessions facilitated by our agency and to review documents, policies, procedures that are required to operate the home child care setting.
Yes, Providers can operate home child care in apartments. Etobicoke Home Child Care Agency considers many health and safety factors when placing children. Decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. For more information, please contact the office.
